Summer, Summer, Summer! How I’m Using Oils to Get Me Through

summer favorites

I was thinking of ideas for a post this morning when I realized that a recap of my summer posts is past due. It sucks to scroll through and try to find what you need, so here is a little cheat sheet post for you guys! Simply click on the highlighted words to take yourself to the post you desire. You’re welcome.

Sunburn Issues

The most viewed posts for summer topics are my sunburn spray and sunburn cream entries. With these results from my sunburn cream, I can see why! Just one application overnight amazed not only myself, but everyone I showed. I have this obsession with showing EVERYONE. Sorry, friends and family.

Bikinis and Stretch Marks

My stretch mark post was a super popular post too. I used my frankincense and rose scrub for just four days for these results. I am happy to say that this summer I have been able to wear a bikini and feel comfortable in my own skin.

Maintaining/Losing Weight and Kicking Sugar Cravings

My personal sugar addiction story caught people’s attention. This summer, make it your goal to be healthy and happy with your body. Essential oils are a great help and I am so glad I found ones that work for me!

Keeping Bugs Away

Spiders are a big problem in my area come summertime, so I use a peppermint and water combination to shoo them away. So far, we’ve only had one spider enter our house, and that’s because I forgot to spray for a week or two. This post also talks about keeping misquitos away for water and campfire fun.

how to drink more water

My last post was about the importance of hydration and how I make sure that I am drinking enough water. This is a must read! I cannot stress the importance of water enough. Making it fun is a great way to keep up this summer.

Shaving and Keeping Skin Soft

I am in LOVE with scrubs. They’re super easy to make and my skin is left feeling soft and beautiful, plus my shaves last much longer. I love my rose petal and frankincense scrub, but my newest favorite is my orange and vanilla creamsicle scrub. Can you say yum?!

Berry Stains

Summer is the season of wonderful berries and terrible carpet stains. Thankfully, I have thieves cleaner to save my house.

Those are the summer favorite so far! Keep checking back for more summertime oil posts coming soon.

Shoot Down Sugar Cravings

Shoot Down Sugar Cravings

America is becoming overcome by sugary and fatty foods and drinks for cheap prices. Our children are becoming diabetic at early ages and according to, 27.7% of adults are obese, and many more people are on the path to increasing those numbers. What’s going on? Our food industries are pushing out addictive foods so that we come back to our favorite foods and they continue to make money.

I am going to share a personal story with you guys that I haven’t really shared with the public before. Some of you will be disgusted while some of you will be able to relate.

As a child, I would visit my grandparents a lot. With divorced parents and my dad working long and hard hours with a super long drive back home, my grandparents played a huge roll in raising me. During the time that I was growing up, the knowledge that we have today about food wasn’t really around. I was often pumped full of sugary and fatty foods. I have memories of eating bowls of whipped cream at one grandparent’s house. It was that bad. I never had any weight issues, but as I grew, my addiction to sugar grew too.

I was often sick to my stomach but I always seemed to be eating some sort of candy, cake, etc. It made me happy, for a little while at least. It wasn’t until I became pregnant with my daughter that I started to think of what I was doing to my body. I stopped the sugary food eating as much as I could during my pregnancy, but after I had her, I found myself starting to slip. With my marriage slipping from my fingers and my whole life spiraling out of control, it was easy to sit with a carton of ice cream or a box of donuts and sulk in my pajamas. I didn’t really talk to anyone about it and everyone thought I was ok. I was young, I had just finished high school and my associates degree, and I was already getting a divorce. I wasn’t ok, but instead of talking, I ate. Food doesn’t judge. Food doesn’t care if you made a stupid mistake, food doesn’t care if you got married for all the wrong reasons, food doesn’t care if you let yourself be treated terribly, food just doesn’t care. I had all the support in the world, but I didn’t want to disappoint people.

Soon, I met my amazing boyfriend. I am not sure how I got so lucky, but we became a family and he took in my daughter and I with no questions asked. We have since created a beautiful home and are doing well. He works out all the time and tries to make sure that only healthy food enters our house. Because I have so many years of bad habits in my past, I still struggle. Someone had given me a cake mix and I stuck it in our cabinet. A few weeks later, I found myself whipping up the batter and within a few hours, I had eaten the whole mix. It didn’t even get to the point of baking.

Then, a few days ago I lost a friend in a tragic accident. I cried for about six hours straight and sent my boyfriend to go get me ice cream. The container was gone in two days. Two! I kept getting my problem under control and and then letting it sweep me under again and again.

It was at that point that I decided I needed to make a change for good. I sat myself down and made a list of healthy options for when I had cravings or felt sad. I scoured Pinterest for hours. I never gained weight due to my addiction, but I know that weight isn’t all that has to do with healthiness. I refuse to allow myself to get diabetes. I will NOT be overweight later in life. I refuse to do that to myself.

I have been doing well with my journey so far, but it hasn’t been without help. Essential oils have helped me so much these last few days. Earlier this month I placed an oils order and along with it came two free oils: grapefruit and ocotea. Many of my team members use them and I was a little weary due to the fact that I am still breastfeeding. I decided to just use ocotea and to limit my use to once or twice a day, but it has helped me so much! When I feel a sugary craving coming on, I add a drop to my water or under my tongue. Others place a few drops in a gelatin capsule and take it with water. Ocotea is the main ingredient in Young Living’s Slique, which has also helped many people ward away cravings and lose extra weight, but I have yet to try that (hopefully soon!).

I am excited to see where this journey takes me and I refuse to fail. With the help of ocotea, I know that I will be able to tell myself “no” when I want to eat a half gallon of ice cream, or bury my sorrows in cake batter.

Are you ready to start your journey? Try ocotea with me!

Other great oils to help in your journey include lemon, grapefruit, and peppermint, which help fight cravings and break down fat.
