Hydration Station: The Oily Way

Hydration Station: The Oily Way

hydration station

Are you a scrubaholic now? After the last post, I sure hope so. As my life is slowly mellowing down, I am gathering more and more time to write. Thank goodness!

I want to talk hydration today. It’s summer time and we all know that means hot weather and sweating. I have the hardest time drinking enough water as it is, so this time of the year is especially difficult for me, and I am assuming other people have the same issue. Water is so important to our health. It is the base of what we need and it helps us maintain a health weight and keep everything running right. There are a few things I have been doing recently to help me remember to do the simple task of drinking water.

how to drink more water

I like water bottles. Stainless steel, of course. For some reason, when I buy a new one, I feel empowered and want to drink as much water as my body can handle. Anyone else get way too excited for a new water bottle, or am I just crazy? I find one I love and carry it with me wherever possible. I cycle out my collection to ensure that I continue the “new water bottle” feeling.

Keeping track of how many ounces I drink a day helps me see my progress and feel proud of myself. Like a point system, keeping track gets me excited about earning more stars. I think it would be a really good idea to have a goal to work toward in a week to earn a small prize like a new pair of earrings, or better yet, a new oil.

fabulous flavored water

Essential oils can add fun flavor to water, so to help me get through my water goals, I like to mix it up with different flavors. Oddly, peppermint is really good. All citrus oils are also good, including citrus fresh, orange, grapefruit, tangerine, lemon, and lime. Check out one of my first posts about adding oils to beverages for more ideas. Remember that only one to two drops is necessary for about 16-32 ounces of water. A little oil goes a long way. If your water tastes too strong or oily, knock down the amount of oil you are adding.

Young Living oils are the only oils you should ingest, as they truly one hundred percent pure. It is important to remember that oils can leech into plastic so stainless steel is the best bet for holding water with oils in it. Stainless steel is much better than plastic anyway and keeps drinks cooler or warmer longer without nasty chemicals being pushed into our water.

What is your favorite summer drink made with oils?

Orange Creamsicle Scrub

Orange Creamsicle Scrub

OrangeCream

I’m back on my DIY spree! Be prepared for a swarm of posts on the various stuff I put together right in my kitchen. Wanna be like the cool kids? Try some of the recipes with me! I’d love to hear about it in the comments.

Last night I had a really fun Ladies’ Night Out vendor event at a local chiropractic office. We were to bring samples for each of the women who came and I was at a loss on what I should make. I decided on a “sleepy” rub with lavender and stress away, an “achy” rub with panaway and peppermint, and my favorite, a creamsicle scrub. The scrub is divine, spectacular, beautiful, amazing, and outrageously good. Like, I really can’t even begin to describe just how good it smelled. I wish I could waft it under each of your noses as you read this. I am not even kidding. Am I crazy? Nah, this scrub is just that good. Guess you’ll have to try it out to see what I mean!

cream scrub

It was super simple too! Just 1/4 cup of coconut oil (melted for easier mixing), 3/4 cup of sugar (bigger grain is better, but I used smaller grain with a great result), 1 capful of vanilla extract (found at any grocery store) and 10 drops orange. That’s it! Orange is a really cheap oil too, so this scrub is cost effective and yummy smelling! I mean really, how could you go wrong with orange and vanilla? So calming, so aromatically amazing, so wonderful in general.

Me? Get a Sunburn? Never! Oh, Wait. How Can I fix it?

Me? Get a Sunburn? Never! Oh, Wait. How Can I fix it?

thankmeHow is it the middle of June already? I feel like I’m going to blink and winter will be here. Anyone else in the same boat? These last few weeks have been such a blur for me and with the death of a friend and my grandmother. I feel like everything is going at a million miles a minute. My life has kind of turned upside down, but luckily I have essential oils to help keep me at least half sane.

Remember that post recently about the sunburn spray? I didn’t have any of it with me after this weekend’s burns (I know, I know. Sunblock is SO important but I somehow forgot in the midst of everything- but hey, at least I got my daughter smothered in it), so I ended up using coconut oil, tea tree, and lavender. It actually worked really well. I have it stashed in the wee one’s diaper bag because it’s a pretty versatile mix and it comes in handy with skin problem situations like diaper rashes and scrapes, as well as sunburns, apparently.

skinmix

My skin was slightly, um, super burned in random places like the back of my knees and neck. No where else seemed to get hit though. It hurt so bad to walk around and I needed to get rid of that nasty feeling fast. I figured since I had that mix with me I might as well give it a shot. Thankfully, it helped take away the sting and over the course of the evening, lessened the red tone of the sun’s markings. It no longer hurt to walk and I was back in business!

Remember, sunblock is super important. I can’t stress that enough. Don’t ruin your skin, please. But, if you do end up getting a burn, try either the sunburn spray or this cream to help with the irritations that come along with burns. You will thank me. You’re welcome in advance.

Do you have any new and exciting summer plans? Tell us about them in the comments! Maybe we’ll vote on who has the most exciting plans 🙂 I know I won’t be the winner! Here’s to serving coffee and writing.

Cleaning the Tub with Just Water and Thieves

Cleaning the Tub with Just Water and Thieves

As you might be able to tell, I am still on my cleaning frenzy to keep my mind off of the craziness happening around me. My house is looking pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. You may remember a post a few months ago about how I cleaned my tub with purification and lemon after my daughter pooped in it for the first time. Yeah, motherhood is so glorious. Anyway, today I decided to go a different route and try thieves.

tub

I have been using my thieves household cleaner, which is all natural, safe around kids, and cost effective, religiously for every surface in my house. Today I scrubbed down our bathrooms from top to bottom with it. I decided to go the extra mile on our tub and fill it as full as it could be filled with the hottest water possible. I added 8 drops of thieves and sat on the edge, breathing in the unique and delightful smell. I let it sit for about a half hour before draining the tub. My house, hours later, still smells of the thieves, which is awesome. I know that the tub, along with my daughter’s bath toys, are completely clean and that is such an awesome feeling.

june cleaning challenge

I suggest doing this routine monthly. I mean, you should probably be cleaning your bathroom once a week still, but I think filling the tub with the hottest water possible and adding thieves oil monthly is a safe and important additive when it comes to ensuring that your tub is the cleanest it can be. Nobody wants their kids (or husbands) bathing in germs. It kind of defeats the purpose of bathing.

This is also a great technique in hotel bathtubs. Who knows what’s in those things!

Stomach Aches, Sniffles, and Sorrow

Stomach Aches, Sniffles, and Sorrow

past

You may have noticed that I haven’t posted for a while, and for that I do apologize. This last week has been a really tough time for my family and I. A little over a week ago, my great grandma has a massive heart attack with a few smaller ones to follow. The doctors found fluid around her heart and in her lungs. We knew it was just a matter of time before we lost her so we all spent as much time with her as we could. I spent almost every day with her since the weekend of her first heart attack, barely making time for chores and eating. Yesterday, around 11:30 am, as she was moving to the living room as per her request, she suffered another massive heart attack that took her life. None of us were prepared for it. We knew it was coming, but we were so unprepared for the amount of sorrow it would bring us. We all gathered, teary eyed and sorrowful in her house. I have never experienced an ache so horrible.

Along with our sorrow, we were all sick. Whether it be stress and sadness or lack of eating, we were all suffering from either horrible headaches, stomach aches, or a combination of both. My grandma had purchased the premium starter kit a few months before and luckily had the oils at her home where we were all gathered. I found her peppermint and passed it around. My grandma, my great grandma’s daughter, had the worst headache and stuffy nose from crying so she placed a drop on her forehead and rubbed it in. She said her nasal passages were opening rather quickly and her headache was dissipating. It was then passed to my brother because he was suffering from a stuffy nose. He hadn’t ever used oils before, so this was new to him. He placed a drop on his forehead and his passages too were opened.

I didn’t have too horrible of a headache, but I was having a stomach ache like none other. I felt like my stomach was twisted in knots and I was so sick. I placed a drop on my tummy and massaged it in circles into my skin. The aroma was soothing and the whole room seemed to bask in it. Soon, I felt much better. While my sorrows were still there, my cramping was not.

In our saddest of times, peppermint helped us feel a little better physically and that was much appreciated. It was the oil Gram last used too. She loved diffusing it because it smelled so nice and always helped her breathe better. Now when I smell peppermint, I will think of her beauty.

Last night I ended up sleeping 14 hours in a row because sleeping has always been how I deal with sadness. I woke up terribly sad still and decided to use some stress away and joy on my wrist. While they didn’t take away the pain, I was able to go on with my day and do the chores that needed to be done. I buried my sorrows in a cleaning frenzy.

cleaning for sadness

I took my thieves cleaner and set to work cleaning with my daughter. I scrubbed down every door in my house to rid them of finger prints, wiped down the counters, cleaned the floor, wiped down every mirror (we have a ton of those), cleaned the cabinets, washed the dishes, wiped down the inside and outside of our trash cans, emptied the fridge and scrubbed it down from top to bottom, scrubbed the inside of the microwave, spot cleaned the carpet, and then vacuumed and swept. I am still amazed at all the uses of this cleaner. It is so versatile and I feel totally comfortable using it around my daughter.

This is such a tough time for my family and I really appreciate the help the oils have given us to make it just a little bit easier.

Changes: New Premium Starter Kit, Great Deals, and More!

Changes: New Premium Starter Kit, Great Deals, and More!

changes

I am so excited that June is here, even though is snuck up on me out of nowhere. One moment my daughter was turning one in March, the next it’s almost summertime. I feel like I just blew right through April and May. Anyone else with me?

Now that June is here I want to talk about some of the changes that have happened with this blog and some changes that are in process with Young Living. The first change has already happened and you may have noticed. I finally purchased a domain for my blog! Instead of being younglivingwithlexi.wordpress.com, this blog can now be found at younglivingwithlexi.com. I am excited that this has finally become a “big girl” blog. I have put so much hard work and effort into this and I felt that it deserved its very own domain, so here we are.

new domain

Now, onto Young Living’s changes. This month is all sorts of crazy for Young Living. I haven’t mentioned this before because I wanted things to slow down and to make sure to have all the correct information before I passed it on to you guys.

old kit

So, onto business. Right now, Young Living is having an amazing deal going. With the Premium Starter Kit that is currently available, a FREE oil will be being sent out. At random, tangerine, orange, or lemongrass will be selected and added to the other 11 oils (tea tree, lavender, peppermint, lemon, joy, purification, thieves, pan away, stress away, citrus fresh, frankincense) , diffuser, samples, and booklets that already come with the kit. The PSK was already an amazing deal, but this really tops it off. This is a limited time offer for an unknown amount of time.

new kit

That deal sounds great, right? Well, that’s not the only deal happening. We don’t have a specific date yet, but presumably in mid to late June, a new Premium Starter Kit will be coming out. The price will be going up $10, but for good reason. There will still be 11 oils, but it will be a different combination. Young Living will be removing tea tree, joy, and citrus fresh and will be replacing those oils with  RC (awesome for breathing issues, colds, snoring, etc), DiGize (great for stomach pains, cramps, constipation, IBS, etc), and copaiba (good for helping with pain). The new kit will also be including sample bottles, sharing cards, and more. The box is sturdier and it’s an all-around amazing deal.

flex oils

Also, “flex oils” will be included. As you may know, Young Living does not outsource any of their product making. They refuse to have anything but the highest quality and because of that, sometimes things will go out of stock. Young Living has recognized that and created what they call “flex oils”. If one of the oils in the new kit runs out of stock, it will be replaced by orange (great for help with teeth whitening, cooking, energy, etc), lemongrass (amazing for pain and digestive issues), tea tree (which was in the older kit and is great for soothing skin, wrinkles, etc), citrus fresh (also in the older kit and great for energizing), or aroma ease (super awesome for helping with stress and energy levels).

which kit

Both deals are amazing and it’s all personal choice. If you want to save $10 and get the free bonus oil with the older kit that will soon be going out of stock soon, the first deal is for you. If this is your deal, I recommend ordering right away so that you don’t miss it.

If you are excited to try out the new kit and want something new and fresh that includes more sharing opportunities, the new kit is the deal for you. If this is the deal for you, wait until mid to late June for the release to order.

Which one are you choosing? Both deals are spectacular and I approve of either choice you make!

This is my personal testimony.  Please consult with your physician prior to using any kind of natural remedy or supplement.

Focus & Field

Focus & Field

june

It’s the end of the month! Do you know what that means in direct sales? Utter chaos. There’s numbers to be run, last minute sales to put out there, goals to be made, and so much more. I love the end of the month because it’s so close to a new and fresh month, but it can be really stressful and hard to concentrate on one thing at a time. With so many things to do, I often have issues completing one task before starting another.

Field

I talked about the Infused 7 oils a week and a half or so ago. I mentioned that I love them and what not, but today I want to go into a little more depth about the “Field” oil blend. It really helped me today so I want to share that experience with my lovely readers!

As I mentioned, the end of the month is super crazy for direct sales, or any type of sales for that matter. Along with the craziness of that all, I have also been working at my other job, on top of writing, on top of my grandmother being in the hospital as her days grow short. It’s been a really tough couple weeks with losing my friend and now closing in on losing my grandmother. I am barely holding myself together and burying myself in my work seems to be helping.

writing escape

Today I decided to write a piece on Zerys.com. I haven’t been assigned anything for a little while, so I decided to take one of the “open writer board” options and chose to write a piece about business card size. Exciting, right? I thought it would help take my mind off of things, but when I sat down to write, I just couldn’t do it. My mind that had racing all weekend just stopped. I noticed my “Field” oil blend sitting on my desk and placed a drop on my wrist and smoothed it in. Normally I would diffuse it, but that would mean having to get up and get my diffuser, and we all know that would have just caused too much stress 🙂 To be fair, I am dealing with way too much, but anyway, back to this.

After applying it to my wrist and sniffing it like the weirdo I am, I sat for a while and soon ideas started flowing to me. I knew exactly what to write. I knew what to cover, what to expand on, and thus a beautifully written masterpiece was created. Well, as beautiful as a piece on business card size can be. ***Side note: don’t do the “wrist sniff” in public. People will look at you like you’re crazy***

wrist sniffing

I love the “Field” oil blend because it helps me concentrate on the work I set out for myself. It helps me to focus on one thing at a time and helps me think about the big picture, even in the midst of chaos. It smells nice and refreshing and helps boost not only my confidence in my work, but in myself as well.

Other great oils for concentration include Clarity, peppermint (Dr. Williams Dember found a 28% concentration rate increase with the use of peppermint), Brain Power, rosemary, and lemon. I like to think of peppermint and lemon as my super blend when I’m not using “Field”.

concentration

If you have work that needs to be done as this crazy month comes to an end, lean on essential oils to give you that extra boost of energy and concentration!

Also, today is the last day of the May contest to win an Amazon gift card. Pop over to the contest post to see how you can win.
