Spider & Misquito Season is Almost Here

Spider & Misquito Season is Almost Here

I, like many others, hate spiders. I don’t know what it is about them, but they give me the chills and I prefer for them to not make my home into their home. We moved into a house in what I refer to as a “forest land”. There are woods and trees surrounding every aspect of our living space and just about every bug you can think of lives next to us. Summer is coming and while I love the sun, I am just not ready to share my home. How do I combat all those bugs?

Peppermint. That’s it, just peppermint. Not nasty chemicals that my daughter might get into, just good ol’ peppermint essential oil. I diffuse it all the time to help wake me up, so that helps it spread throughout my house, but I also mix 10 drops of it with 8 oz of water and spray it around my house, focusing on the door area and corners. So far, no spiders have made it into this peppermint filled home.

For an extra bonus to ensure that other types of bugs don’t weasel their way in, I like to spray a mixture of 10 drops each peppermint, purification, and thieves, along with 4 oz of water and 4 oz of witch hazel. This is great for mosquitos. Use this when sitting around a campfire or a trip to the lake too! It’s a great and child safe alternative to chemical filled bug repellent.

  1. We have propane heated everything in our home and spiders congregate here because they like the smell of the additive that’s put in to let people know when there’s a gas leak. The stinky stuff that smells like egg farts – they love it. I’m definitely going to try the peppermint oil spray. Thanks so much for posting it. :o)
